Will the business find out who I am?

Anonymous complaints: what stays private and what goes public

People hold back complaints for one reason more than any other: they do not want the business to know who they are. A tenant who still has a lease. A customer who has to go back to the same shop. Anyone who has seen a complaint answered with a personal attack.

On RDACTD anonymity is the default, not a setting you have to find. Here is exactly what that means on both sides.

What the business sees when you file

It sees the complaint: the type, what happened, the dates, the amounts and whatever you attached. It does not see your name, your email address or your phone number. It replies to you inside the case, not to your inbox.

Your phone number is the one detail that never reaches the public. If you later disclose your identity the business sees your name, email and phone, but a public viewer of that same case file still sees only the name and email.

Revealing yourself is your call, and it is one-way

Some complaints need a name on them: an account to look up, a booking to find, a refund to route. You can reveal your identity at any time, and after the business has acknowledged the case it can ask you once whether you will. You can decline, and declining is final for the business’s ask, though you can still volunteer later if you change your mind.

Revealing cannot be undone. When you do, the business sees the name, email and phone on your account, and a public viewer of that case sees the name and email only.

Anonymous is not the same as untraceable, and that is deliberate

Every complaint is tied to a real account, which is why an anonymous complaint here carries weight that an anonymous form on a review site does not. A business cannot dismiss it as a fake, and a made-up grievance cannot be filed and walked away from.

A complaint found to be abusive, defamatory or fabricated can be suppressed by an administrator, which removes it from public view for good. Anonymity protects you from retaliation; it is not cover for making things up.
